How do I choose brackets for the installation of a terrace or balcony? Read this article and find out all you need to know about brackets for mounting movable external blinds.

Movable terrace blinds are a simple way to enclose a terrace, gazebo, shed or balcony. The system consists of two components:

  • wooden planks of suitable cross-section
  • handles that allow them to be positioned in any plane

The type of boards chosen and the brackets used to mount them will determine the durability of the development and its price. Do you want to know how to put up movable walls for years to come? We answer the most frequently asked questions.

Why build a terrace with terrace blinds?

The construction of movable brackets and matching boards makes it easy to shield the terrace from the sun, rain, wind and prying eyes. The movable brackets for the wooden blinds allow you to quickly change the position of the boards. Depending on the weather, you can cover the terrace area tightly or open the walls to the wall.

How to choose handles for moving blinds?

There are several solutions on the market with a similar mechanism of operation: movable handle sockets into which suitably prepared boards are inserted. They differ in the material of construction.

Aluminium brackets for external blinds

Pros:

- Aluminium retains its rigidity even when thinly cut. Handles made of it are light and optically delicate.

- are corrosion-resistant

- are robust

Minuses:

- aluminium is a metal that oxidises easily, so it sometimes tarnishes

- has poor frictional properties. Sockets made of it can work hard

- thin handles deform easily

- paint chafes and spatters on moving parts

Brackets for moving blinds made of plastic (polypropylene)

Pros:

- are durable, difficult to damage

- are easy to operate, making it easy to adjust the blinds to any position

- are affordable

- are weatherproof

- they are lightweight and therefore do not weigh down the structures to be built

Minuses:

- have a specific strength, so it is important to use them in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations

How much surface area can you cover with patio blind brackets?

Terrace cladding with plastic blind holders

It depends. There are several profiles on sale that differ:

- heights

- number of board holders

- the cross-section of the timber profiles used

- permissible board lengths for assembly

The handles can be combined by trimming and clipping them together. When clipped together with special clips, they allow the blinds to be closed/opened simultaneously. Do you want to know what area you can cover with OpenUpSystem handles from Otwrane.pl? Take a look at our shop.

What do you need to look out for before installing movable blinds?

1.Length of development boards

Only use boards of the maximum length specified by the grip manufacturer. Planks that are too long put undue strain on the handles, shortening their life. Information on which board length you can use with the handles OpenUpSystem, you will find on our website.

 2.Quality of construction material

The load-bearing beams on which the mechanism for installing movable blinds rests must be durable and water-resistant. We use glulam beams, the best in terms of strength and visual class available on the market. As a result, the construction can withstand both gusts of strong wind or large temperature fluctuations and is protected from water washing in from below.

3. colour of brackets for terrace blinds

Match the colour of the brackets to the boards you want to enclose the terrace with. In our you will find handles in as many as four colours. You can use colour-matched sets of boards and profiles for the movable planks, or, on the contrary, accentuate the design by combining boards with handles in contrasting colours.

How do you enclose a terrace with external blinds?

Consider several elements.

  1. You must mount the brackets precisely, at the same height. Only then will the wooden planks be perfectly parallel to each other.
  2. Start assembling the handles from the top. Remember to keep a distance of min. 5 mm from the top edge of the frame, so that the wooden board does not interfere with it and the whole thing can move freely.
  3. The wooden slats must be 3.5 cm shorter than the width of the recess to be built. Thus - for example - for a 1 m wide bay, slats 96.5 cm long should be prepared.
